Happy Fall Y’all!

Happy fall, everyone! This is my absolute favorite time of year. I love the cooler weather, the pumpkin swirl flavoring at Dunkin, the changing leaves and the comfier clothes.

I also love the feeling of transition in general. There’s just something about changing seasons that makes me want to change myself. Well, maybe more reinvent. I get a renewed energy and really run with it. I clean, I redecorate, I set up new goals and plans.

I am blessed enough that I got to ring in this autumn with the energy of 108 sun salutations at my favorite yoga studio with one of my favorite yoga instructors and an amazing, beautiful, inspiring group of people.

Little did I know, each sun salutation was a full vinyasa (if you are not familiar with this term, please view this). Claudine placed a marble into a jar every time we completed one and I swear that little clink was such a sweet sound. It took us about 2 hours to complete them all and I definitely rested a good bit. At one point, my neck was bothering me so I sat and watched in awe how all of these beautiful people gave themselves over to their practice. It was incredible. Quite a few of them did every single one of the 108. The exhibit of mind body and dedication in that alone was awesome.

It’s crazy how pushing through all of that sinks you so deep into yourself and your intentions. I can’t even describe it. It really is something that should be personally experienced.

This season, I am going to be selfish. I am going to allow myself the genuine love and care that I, like every human being, deserve. I am going to go to yoga and fully delve myself into my practice. I am going to make smart choices with eating. I am going to learn how to say “no” when I need a break or don’t want to do something. I am going to try new things. I am going to find the place in myself where happiness lives and draw from it throughout my day. I am going to smile even when I don’t feel like it. And I am going to allow myself the things I want most without feeling guilty about how selfish it may be (I’m thinking multiple tattoos). Basically, I’m going to live MY life with MY idea of how I want it to go.

At the end of class, Claudine always leaves us with a few words and they have such a deep and true meaning to me. I’d like to share them with you all in the hopes that you feel the warmth as well.

“I honor the light in you

as you honor the light in me

and together we become one

and say

Namaste.”
Find that light in yourself so that you may recognize it in others. Find the light in yourself so that you may let it grow. Find the light in yourself so that you may find peace.

  1. I have always wanted to try yoga. There are no yoga studios where I live (at least that I can find) though and I am not sure how to go about it other than a v. expensive gym membership. If you have any ideas about how i could get started at home, I would be happy to know!

    1. A great place to start is just to download a couple of the yoga apps out there and try them out until you fine one you like. I also use YouTube on my tv to find yoga videos when I can’t make it to a class. Yoga With Adriene is a really good channel on there!
